St.Mary's, Leixlip - is located in the heart of Leixlip village. Built at the confluence of the rivers Liffey and Rye, the site has been a place of Christian worship for at least eight hundred years.

Destroyed by the forces of Robert Bruce in 1317, St. Mary’s has undergone major re-construction during the intervening centuries.

The tower of St. Mary’s, dating from the mid fifteenth century, is a fine example of a western residential tower. Towers such as this were built to be used as a residence for the priest.

A columbarian, for the repose of cremated remains, was recently constructed in the ancient barrel vaulted crypt.

Ongoing Fundraising and Generous Donations

On Saturday 2nd June the Annual Summer Fair was held in the grounds of St.Mary's. Despite threatening skies the day passed off dry and a spectacular sum of €15,000 was raised for parish funds. Well done to all concerned.

We gratefully acknowledge generous donations from community and commercial groups. Among those are a commitment from Leixlip Town Council to give €5000 euro to the project. We also acknowledge the donation of £3000 stg (€4500) from Ecclesiastical Insurance towards the project. Significant sums have been donated from individuals within the community over the last few weeks . Thank you to all concerned.

Phase 2 to commence in mid-2007

The St. Marys Conservation and Development Project Committee are delighted and excited to announce that phase two of the project will commence in the next few weeks. (Hard hats for all!)

It is anticipated that this phase of the project will involve further work on the roof and work on the windows. This is specialised work and we look forward to beginning this part of the work very soon with the assistance of our contractors, Barberry Construction.
